Boutique Floral, Elegant Floristry Commercial Photography

Meet The Client

I first met Emma when we were both exhibiting at a Small Business Owners event.  We got to talking about her new site, and how she needed some photography as part of the launch of her new business.  Emma really wanted to stand out from other floristry businesses online especially.  She knew that in order to do this, she needed great photography to show off her deluxe brand.

We had an initial meeting to explore the story behind her brand and I learned all about the extra studying in Floristry that Emma had done, and quickly understood just how much she had done to distance herself from the rest of her market.

We decided on the four key areas of her business by the main booking she was already getting.  As a new business this was really difficult to do, so Emma wanted to keep things fairly wide spread like this until she had more of an idea on where the majority of her business and her target market would fall over the next few years.

The Brand

Going for a super deluxe brand was a really bold move on Emma’s part.  She explained to me that because it is so easy for anyone to go into a supermarket and pick out fairly good flowers, she knew that she had to carve out her own niche.
Catering to the already refined client, with an already clear understanding of the value that a professionally trained florist provides a certain “je ne sais quoi” to an arrangement was precisely the person Emma wants to speak to with her brand message, and the photography we were about to create. For anyone else who comes into contact with her high level brand Emma showed me this graphic on her phone:
We high-fived after this.

Emma is most inspired by the very avant garde florists, that frankly, most of us don’t even know the names of.  I’m talking about the kinds of florists that fly around in helicopters and work with Fashion Designers.  The kinds of florists who know what flowers the Queen likes in her tub.  The kinds of florists who know what flowers your own children will think are trendy in their bouquets when they marry in 15 years time.  Those guys.

These sessions were going to be a case of blending these ideals with Emma’s current regional market, whilst also catering to the specific demographic that would instantly fall in love with the precise handiwork only Emma could do.

The Photography

So, like I mentioned previously, we quickly decided that to get enough photography to match up to Emma’s current business strategy of catering to the 4 main markets she is catering for right now as a start up business, we needed to ensure we had photography that fit to these specific crowds.  All the while ensuring that the Boutique Floral brand message was consistent throughout.

Session 1 – Funeral Flowers

Emma made a flower pillow, a nautical anchor, two different flower sprays and some bouquets to show different styles of floral arrangements that were often requested for funerals.

Taking a journey all around the North East, beginning at King Edwards Bay in Tynemouth, working our way around Tynemouth and then headed over to North Shields Fish Quay.

We visited a Chapel of Rest to get some shots of Emma’s floral arrangements inside a Hearse and on top of a coffin.

We finished off at Blyth at the Bandstand, and used some cobbled ground as a great backdrop surface.

Special Thanks

The Chapel of Rest – Jacob Conroy & Sons are due a special thanks as they very kindly let us take photographs with their coffins and hearse’s.

Session 2 – Wedding Flowers

In order to capture the full scale of Emma’s talents as a Wedding florist, Emma wanted to have a full day photo shoot dedicated to a series of Wedding floral looks.  Together we arranged models, make up and a venue to create this.  Emma made a staggering amount of Wedding related floral arrangements.  In fact it took about 4 car trips for her to get all of the flowers she had to the venue.  I was amazed!
Let’s take a look.

Session 3 – Commercial Flowers & Headshots

To get the right mix of flowers photography for this part of Emma’s branding message we needed to get flowers photography both in different commercial settings, as well as in a studio lit environment and context.  During office hours, I joined Emma on her rounds to capture flower displays that she would be taking to her very varied clients around town.

In the Studio

For the studio lit and more controlled environment imagery, Emma wanted to really focus in on flowers themselves.  She knew that when she would be sending gifts to clients, and then working on specific graphics and design she would need really close up images of flowers to hand.

After shooting flowers galore, we also managed to make time to get a really fun relaxed Headshot of Emma too.

Session 4 – Occasions Flowers

Every single season on the Calendar is a great opportunity to give a floral arrangement.  Flick through any great publication, or scroll through Pinterest and you have “inspo” flying at you.
With Emma’s unique take on the higher design element with the Boutique Floral brand.  It was really important to her that through her marketing she show her audience that she was on the cutting edge of things with all of the seasons when it comes to floral design and the creative opportunity each of them brings.
