Influence within a marketing strategy has been around for a lot longer than you may think. It’s not just an Instagram thing. I’ll be talking about influence marketing through ancient history next week.

Now that we live in a world where the metrics are a lot easier to understand behind an influencers influence (through social media), strategically getting your brand in front of your target audience is becoming more accessible to much smaller businesses, who before social media, would never have had the budget to:
- Reach out to a person of significant influence to begin an influencer marketing campaign.
- Find an Influencer who is the perfect best fit for their brand.
- Measure how successful all of this time and energy and investment returned sales.

MY £500 MISSION OF INFLUENCE
Roll back the clock to 2016. I was directly involved with a couple of different micro-influencer projects. In short, they were a complete nightmare. I was shocked and dismayed at how poor the industry operated and at that time decided to just dust myself off and crack on shooting brand photography for more serious entrepreneurs who had influence.
Since the lockdown, my interests in this world have been piqued again. I’m curious to know if the industry is still as bad, or if things have levelled up yet.
So to test this out for myself, I decided to set myself a little challenge.
By the end of 2020 I want to have accumulated £500 worth of influencer swag.
