Rachel Whittaker is re-purposing her years of living on the road as a beauty distribution expert into being the go-to-gal for all independent beauty brands who want to get their gorgeous creations out into the world.

YVONNE RADLEY’S BIG ME UP MEDIA RETREAT

We met each other in the run-up to Yvonne’s Dream Life retreat to Marbella, Spain.  Rachel explained to me how she was looking to build up more of an international reputation with her online membership, and she wanted something filled with authenticity and personality in her beauty industry headshots.  She wanted to level things up from rocking the selfies in her brand.

THE PLANNING

Following a guest spot on Yvonne’s FB Live about the upcoming retreat, Rachel and I met over the phone to chat about how we could capture the right headshots for her needs.  We quickly agreed that taking some time to find relevant spots in Marbella’s Old Town felt like a good fit with the Indie Beauty Delivers brand.

THE RACHEL WHITTAKER WISH-LIST

From the planning meeting we had over the phone before departure, I learned that Rachel was a keen gardener.  She loves all things flora and fauna.  This is a huge part of the beauty industry as well as being a passion for Rachel.  I suggested we try and find some ways to add this to our bespoke headshots when we got to Spain.

• FLORA & FAUNA

Rachel is a passionate gardener. She loves how plant extracts formulate a huge part of the beauty industry.  A lot of her members work on plant formulations for their array of creations.  We wanted to get this into the headshots without things looking like Gardeners World.

• PINK ON PINK, WITH PINK

The Beauty Indie delivers brand has hints of pink. Rachel requested that we add this to the aesthetic of her Beauty Industry Headshots without being too girly.

• FUN AND EASY GOING

A lot of the Beauty Industry is built on an aloof air of “gorgeous-snootiness”. Rachel is 100% the antithesis of this.  She is easy going and wants to make sure that everyone she meets virtually, gets this about her.

Rachel’s Bespoke Headshot Session

Shoot day involved a beautiful stroll through Marbella.  Rachel’s husband John came along with us and was a pro with the reflector.  Together we all chatted about business, and whilst doing this we looked out for subtle pinks and nooks of light.

When walking towards the old town from the beach we actually saw a guitarist and Spanish Dancer busking in the square to this very song!

MARBELLA OLD TOWN

We started off near to Rachel’s hotel near to the beach.

Marbella’s Old Town is made up of very narrow cobbled streets.  The way that the sunlight dances around in this maze is extraordinary.

I’d love to see this shot on Rachel’s first book cover.  Isn’t it dreamy?

RACHEL’S EDIT

Rachel decided that working through her full shoot with an online VIP Gallery would suit her needs best.  Together we worked virtually on selecting the right beauty industry headshots for her needs.

We worked on narrowing down images to a final selection that met the original wish list and ensured that wider team members like web designers, social media managers, graphic designers and the like would have plenty of on brand photography to work with for the duration for a huge variety of reasons like her focussed online membership and content broadcasting.

THE RETOUCH

In Rachels retouch, we increased the saturation of pinks to really bring out the on-brand quality of the colours.
